Throw Revolution X Spinworkx Trick Tutorials #6 - Black Hops

Throw Revolution, together with us, will be releasing a set of 20 Trick Tutorials to get players, new or old, honed in for freestyles. This set of tricks to come include various modern elements that is worth a learn to rack up points during contests.

The trick-set for these trick tutorials was thought up by 2011 World Yo-Yo Champion, Marcus Koh, and the elements in these short tricks are still used by Marcus in his contest freestyles.

For the sixth trick in the Trick Tutorials line-up, we have a trick that absolutely must be in any freestyle competitors pool of tricks. The Black Hops is an essential trick that gets players used to hopping the yo-yo between strings in really tight spaces. This is great practice for all sorts of trick combos that involve hops! The Black Hops trick was created by 1A World yo-yo champion, Tomonari Ishiguro (BLACK) back in the early 2000s and has been a popular trick ever since.

The Black Hops has been seen in freestyle competitions around the world frequently. A few years ago, it would be tough to find a contest that had no players performing the Black Hops during their freestyle routine. This trick may look very daunting, but what we can recommend is that if starting out with a Triple or Nothing is tough, just try doing the trick from a Double or Nothing first and work your way up to a Triple or Nothing. We must say that hitting this trick with a short string is really tough, so when first learning this trick, try to use a slightly longer string.

If you have any questions, you can hit us up on Facebook, Instagram, drop us an email, or come down and ask us (or the Throw Revolution team) on how to perfect this trick!

Have fun practicing, and keep spinning!
