Spinworkx Yoyo Review: Duncan Freehand 2 - Plastic isn't dead!

We all now know that the high-end metal yo-yo industry is more saturated than ever. Gone are the days where we would see 1 metal bring released for every 3-4 plastic yo-yos made. Nowadays, the industry has changed, with more people having access to aluminum and machining tools becoming more affordable than plastic molds, metal yo-yos are popping up almost every other week, while plastics now take close to 1-2 months to make an appearance!

Obviously there are a lot of good things to say about the recent releases of metal yo-yos in the market, both in terms of quality, affordability, and performance...but that does not mean that plastics are in any way bad at all.

With companies like YoyoFactory pushing the limits of the plastic yo-yo with their "Death To Metal" campaign, and Duncan recently investing their R&D into the new Freehand 2 and other projects, which we hear is extremely promising, we take a step back, and took out a plastic from our stash, gave it to two of the best Single A players in Singapore, and see what they thought about it.

When Head Judge and local yo-yo superstar, Hans Wong Jensen, first looked down at the registration sheets he had laid before him a few days before SYYC, he stood in disbelief.

He crunched up the papers and did a recount.

Nothing's changed, the figures remained the same.

With a hundred and four one-minute freestyles to judge for the upcoming Singapore Yo-Yo Championships, day 1 was about to be the biggest local event we'd ever had since we started SYYC 8 years ago!!!

Plus, with over 60 freestyles coming from just the Spinner (Junior) Divisions alone, this year's SYYC was no longer about the Pro Divisions, but all about the new and upcoming generation of players breaking into the Singapore yoyoing scene!!!

The Singapore Yo-Yo Championships 2010 was the event where we witness the rise of the pro-amateur division!!!

Results are out, and all our players did a REALLY GOOD JOB!!!!

Spinner division players, don't fret! For a first time, all our judges agreed that you guys did really well!!!!!! If you are unclear about the judging system, we will soon be releasing an article to explain it so more of you will be aware of how the system works!

Once more, keep it swinging, and catch you guys in the next regional competition, the Eastern State Throwdown 2010!!!!!!
