IZM by YOYOADDICT Launch at the Spinworkx Store

On the 11th of November, Spinworkx played host to 4x World Champion, Hiroyuki Suzuki, as well as world famous YoYoBaby, Kazuya Murata. Hiroyuki came down to launch his brand new line, IZM by YOYOADDICT with the first yo-yo being the VERSUS. During this launch, there was a mini game in store for everyone to take part in. It involved Boing-Boings, Iron Whips and Suicides.

So the contestants had to do more Boing-Boings than Kazuya could do on his first try. Kazuya hit 38 Boings. This narrowed the contestant pool down. Next up, contestants had to hit more than 19 Iron Whips that Hiroyuki set on his first try. This narrowed the contestant pool to just 2 finalists, Thawhir and Ian Loh.

For the last challenge, the 2 had to do the most Suicides they could do, and the winner would walk away with a brand new VERSUS yo-yo. Thawhir beat Ian in the final Suicide count to emerge the winner.

We would like to thank Hiroyuki and Kazuya for coming by and hanging out with us!

YoYoFactory Orient Express Tour 2014

The YoYoFactory Orient Express Tour is happening now as we post this, with China as their first stop. Next up, this Friday (17/10), the tour will stop by Singapore and we at Spinworkx are so excited to have both Ben McPhee and 2014 World Champion Gentry Stein here with us.

For the in-store event, there will be:
1) Autograph session / Meet & Greet
2) Special discounts for Friday only
3) Special edition yo-yos
4) Raffle / Lucky Draw
5) Try new YYF yo-yos
6) Performances
7) Freebies
8) Mini contest

All this will start at around 4pm. Performances starts at 5pm and is followed by a mini contest and then the Raffle Draw. Be sure to come down on Friday to stand a chance to win great prizes in the Raffle/Lucky Draw. Just remember to ask for a ticket, hold on to your stub, and cross your fingers.

Needless to say, there will be YYF Shutters (regular and special editions) on sale and you definitely don't want to miss these.

SHOWCASE & Spinworkx Challenge (December 2013)

As the end of the year exams draw to a close, it is time to let loose and have some fun this holiday season. Introducing 2 events that we have lined up close to the end of December.

First up, we are bringing back the Spinworkx Challenge for everyone who thinks they've got what it takes to rise up the ladder, all the way to the top.

What: Spinworkx Challenge
When: 20 December 2013 (Friday)
Time: All day!
Where: Spinworkx Store at Orchard Central
Who: Absolutely anybody can take part

The Spinworkx Challenge was conceived back in 2010/2011 to much notoriety and many Spinners in Singapore absolutely dreaded it. Looking at the list of tricks to perform, it may look easy and a breeze to most. But under pressure, many players tend to crack and get nervous, and start making those little itty-bitty mistakes. Do you think you have got what it takes, and take up our Challenge?

Next up, we have a brand new, yo-yo freestyle throwdown/contest in store for everyone. To put it simply, it is an event for the yo-yo community and for people who just enjoy Spinning for any or no reason at all. Introducing SHOWCASE.

What: SHOWCASE

When: 22 December 2013 (Sunday)

Time: 4pm to 8pm

Where: Recognize Studios at Orchard Central

Who: Absolutely anybody can take part

There will be 3 separate freestyle events for SHOWCASE. There is the usual 1A Division, the combined X Division and the Team Division.

This competition has been heavily requested for by many Spinners in the Singapore community, and we are so excited to have everyone come together and throwdown, without the added pressure of needing a 'seed' or attaining a high rank. At SHOWCASE, Spinners will essentially get to do just that and showcase all their best tricks.

Another difference between SHOWCASE and regular contests is that here, we are requesting for community-based volunteers to judge at the event. This benefits the volunteers as they get to learn how to judge AND they get to learn how to improve on their own freestyles by understanding how freestyles are clicked and scored. (If you wish to volunteer as a judge, fill in the registration form as well). Don't worry, we will also have experienced judges judging alongside.

For all who are taking part at SHOWCASE, do note that all Freestyles at the event are 2 minutes long, instead of the usual 1 minute or 3 minutes.
